Finding your way to Garn‑y‑SkirridYour friendly country bunkhouse in Monmouthshire
Navigating from the South-West (Abergavenny)You'll most likely arrive from the Abergavenny direction, via an awkward kind of double-roundabout (locally called 'the peanut' or 'Hardwick roundabout'), then heading up the A465 bypass toward Hereford (not Merthyr), then turning off after a mile or so onto the B4521 off a short stretch of dual carriageway. Go up the road for a couple of miles until you see the 'Llanddewi Skirrid' sign. The pictures below will guide you the last half mile (where sat-navs may get you lost).
As you come around the corner, you will see the Walnut Tree (nice but expensive restaurant) on your left. Not far now. You are going to go down the road and up the other side. If your sat-nav tries to send you along a right fork just down the road, DO NOT take this road.
Down the road from the Walnut Tree, you will see the green corrugated steel village hall (a listed building!). Your sat-nav may try to help you here either by sending you to the left past the village hall or up the track in front of you. DO NOT take these suggestions. Just keep on the main B4521. We are literally just around the corner.
Around the corner is a crossroads (if you go straight past this you will head towards Llanvetherine, the next village). Just by the crossroads turn sharply backwards onto the track. Do not go up the road. You will see a sign here to Garn-y-Skirrid bunkhouse.
Just a few yards down the track, Garn-y-Skirrid is in the garden of the second house on your right. The main house is called 'Middle House', because it is the middle of three houses (sorry about that - it was named before we moved here!).
